After India lost three wickets in the first session of Day 1, the right-handed batter held the fort at one end and scored 131 off 196 balls, putting on a 200-plus fourth-wicket partnership with Ravindra Jadeja. His knock included 14 fours and three sixes.

The Indian captain scored an 84-ball 131 before getting dismissed in what was one of the fastest tons in World Cup history. It was his 31st century in the format, making it an all-Indian top three in the list of most centuries in ODI cricket.

Rohit Sharma holds the record for the most centuries in T20I cricket, achieving the landmark five times. The last of these five tons came against Afghanistan on January 17, 2024, where he remained unbeaten on 121 off 69 deliveries.
