The Ranji Trophy, India’s premier First Class cricket competition, started on December 13 for the 2022-23 season. Unlike the curtailed 2021-22 campaign, the tournament will have a full season with a new format, wherein the teams are divided into Elite and Plate groups.
The Indian cricket team has heavily benefited from the heavy run-scoring by batters in the Ranji Trophy. Wasim Jaffer has scored the most runs in Ranji Trophy history with 12,038 runs. He is the only player with more than 10,000 runs in the competition.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad’s VVS Laxman smashed 1,415 runs in the tournament during the 1999-00 season, the most runs in a single Ranji Trophy season. Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan topped the charts in the 2021-22 season with 982 runs.
As it stands, Dhruv Shorey, Delhi’s opening batter, has amassed the most runs in Ranji Trophy 2022-23.
Meanwhile, Mumbai’s Prithvi Shaw has the highest individual score this season after smashing 379 runs from 383 balls against Assam in the fifth round. It is also the second-best individual score in Ranji Trophy history. Shaw is the ninth batter to score more than 350 runs in a Ranji innings.
