Sri Lanka became the team with the most losses in ODI cricket on Thursday when they lost their 428th ODI match in London against England. It was their second consecutive loss in the ongoing three-match ODI series.
The Sri Lanka cricket team had arrived in England with 390 wins and 426 losses out of the 858 ODIs they had played until then. And Thursday's eight-wicket loss to England saw Sri Lanka leapfrogging neighbours India on the list of this unwanted record.
The India cricket team has lost 427 ODI matches so far, a record that was equalled by Sri Lanka in the first ODI when England defeated the Islanders by five wickets. Sri Lanka have played 860 ODI matches so far, with 390 wins and 428 defeats. They are followed by the Men in Blue on the list
India have played 993 ODI matches, winning 516 matches and losing 427 of them. Nine of those matches ended in a draw while 41 of them saw no results. India have a 54.67 winning percentage in the One-Day Internationals (ODIs).
While India is followed by the Australian cricket team in the most number of ODI matches played, the five-time World Cup winners are also the most successful ODI team in cricket history.
Australia have played 955 ODIs so far, winning 579 of those matches and losing 333 games. They have drawn only nine ODIs so far, while 34 of them have ended with no results. With a win percentage of 63.35, Australia have been the most successful team in the limited-overs format.
