The Indian cricket team holds the record for the most consecutive bilateral ODI series wins against a team.
India achieved the feat on July 24, 2022, after they defeated West Indies by two wickets in a high-scoring thriller in the second ODI at the Queen’s Park Oval to clinch the three-match series.
Chasing a steep target of 312, India rode on all-rounder Axar Patel’s match-winning knock of 64 off just 35 balls and fifties from middle-order batters Shreyas Iyer (63) and Sanju Samson (54) to chase down the total with just two wickets in hand and two balls to spare.
Earlier in the match, West Indies vice-captain Shai Hope smashed 115 off 135 balls while captain Nicholas Pooran scored 74 to help the hosts post 311/6 in their allotted 50 overs.
With another series victory under their belt, India recorded their 12th consecutive bilateral ODI series win over West Indies - the most for a team against any opposition.
Interestingly, the impressive streak started in 2007 when Rahul Dravid-led Men in Blue beat West Indies 3-1 in a four-match home series.
India surpassed arch-rivals Pakistan’s previous record, who won 11 consecutive ODI series against minnows Zimbabwe from 1996 to 2020.
Under captain Wasim Akram, Pakistan started their streak after whitewashing Zimbabwe 3-0 at home in 1996. The Babar Azam-led Pakistan thrashed Zimbabwe 3-0 in a three-match ODI series in 2020 to record their 11th consecutive bilateral series win in the 50-over format.
The Pakistan cricket team also features third on the list for most consecutive bilateral ODI series wins against a team. Between 1999 and 2022, they have registered 10 successive bilateral ODI series wins against West Indies.
South Africa and India complete the top five list for most consecutive bilateral ODI series win against a team.
While the Proteas recorded nine successive bilateral ODI series wins over neighbours Zimbabwe from 1995 to 2018, India has registered the same number of bilateral ODI series victories against Sri Lanka between 2007 and 2021.
