Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara holds the record for most away runs in ODI cricket. The wicket-keeper batsman tallied an impressive 5518 runs in 149 away games between 2000-2015, scoring at an average and strike rate of 43.10 and 80.18 respectively. During the time, Sangakkara hit 10 tons and 35 half-centuries.
Meanwhile, former Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli sits second in the list of most ODI runs away from home. Kohli has so far scored 5108 runs in 108 away matches between 2008-2022. He has the best average (58.04) and strike rate (91.01) among players who have scored at least 4000 away ODI runs. The top-order batter has also scored most hundreds (20) away from home apart from hitting 24 half-centuries.
Kohli is, in fact, the fastest player to score 5000 away runs in the format. The former captain did so in only his 107th away match, scoring 63 runs in the third ODI against Australia.
The 2003 World Cup-winning captain, Ricky Ponting follows after Kohli for scoring 5090 runs in 132 away ODIs. Between 1995-2011, Ponting hit 10 away tons in the 50-over format with the highest score of 164.
The likes of Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni complete the top five list of most away runs in ODI cricket. The Indian duo tallied 5065 and 4520 runs respectively and have 13 centuries between them.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli leads the charts for Indians with most away ODI runs. After Kohli, Tendulkar and Dhoni, the likes of Rahul Dravid (4044) and Sourav Ganguly (3468) complete the top five list for most away ODI runs for India.
