Mayank Agarwal raised a sensational double hundred on the second day of the first Test against Bangladesh in Indore. Even with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma not scoring a single run on day two, India managed 400-plus runs primarily because of the Karnataka opener who made scoring look easy to complete some record-breaking feats. Here are the stats from Mayank's knock and his career so far.
858- Since his Test debut, Mayank has 858 runs in 12 innings at an average of 71.5 with three hundreds, two of which are double centuries, and three half-centuries. This is the most amount of runs anyone has scored in Tests in this time frame, with Steven Smith coming a distant second with 774 runs.
3 - Mayank's three hundred-plus scores is the joint most in this period with Tom Latham, Rohit Sharma and Steven Smith also making three hundreds apiece.
100 - Mayank has been rather proactive at the top for India in Tests, and despite the openers around the globe struggling in this period, this man has gone on to not just make big knocks, but score runs with ease. In his 11-month career so far, Mayank has 100 fours and 21 sixes, most for any batsman in these few months. In his 243 at Indore, Mayank knocked off eight sixes, the joint-most alongside Navjot Singh Sidhu for the most sixes in an innings by an Indian.
12 - Mayank reached his second Test double century in 12 innings. That is the second-fastest to two Test double hundreds by any batsman in the history of the game. Don Bradman took 13 innings to reach the feat while Vinod Kambli holds the record, completing the feat in just five innings.
5 - Mayank just missed to make the highest score by an Indian against Bangladesh by five runs. His 243 is just short of Sachin Tendulkar's 248 against Bangladesh at Dhaka in 2004/05.
6 - This is just the sixth instance of an Indian batsman making over 200 runs in a day of play. Mayank, who scored 37 on day one, made 206 runs on day two. The other batsmen to do it for India are Virender Sehwag (thrice), Karun Nair and MS Dhoni.
71.5 - Mayank's Test average of 71.5 is the best by an opener since his Test debut. It is also way better than the average of all Test openers combined in this time frame. While the group average is 35.8, Mayank's is very nearly double of that.
5 - Mayank made it to the fifth position for Indian Test openers with the highest individual scores. Incidentally, Virender Sehwag occupies all of the top four spots with scores of 319, 309, 293 and 254. Mayank's 243 at Indore comes fifth in the list.
