The Indian cricket team’s eight-wicket loss to New Zealand in Super 12 had diminished their semi-final qualification hopes in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.
However, a 66-run win over Afghanistan and a resounding eight-wicket win over Scotland in 6.3 overs has put the Indian cricket team on the brink of qualifying for the semi-final of the T20 World Cup.
India’s chances of qualifying for semi-final of T20 World Cup 2021
India’s chances of qualifying for the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2021 rest on the clash between Afghanistan and New Zealand on Sunday, November 7. If Afghanistan manages to beat New Zealand, India will stay alive in the semi-final race. If New Zealand beat Afghanistan, India will be knocked out of the tournament.
The Indian team is currently placed in the fourth spot in Group 2 Super 12 standings with four points and a net run-rate (NRR) of +1.619, the best amongst all the teams in the group. For India to qualify as the second team from Group 2, they need to win their next match against Namibia based on Afghanistan’s margin of win against New Zealand.
Pakistan, who are at the top of the standings with eight points in four games have already progressed to the semi-finals.
The Indian team is scheduled to play the last Super 12 match against Namibia on November 8 and is likely to know the qualification scenarios should they still remain in contention.
