The South Africa cricket team holds the record for the highest total in ODI World Cup history.

The Proteas registered a record total of 428/5 against Sri Lanka during an ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 clash in Delhi.

Australia’s 417/6 against Afghanistan is the second highest total in ODI World Cup history.

India features third on the list as they recorded a mammoth total of 413/5 against Bermuda at ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 in Port of Spain.

As many as five 400-plus scores have been recorded in ODI World Cups till date. South Africa have registered three, while India and Australia have posted one each. Know the highest totals in ODI World Cup history.

South Africa registered the highest total in ODI World Cup history against Sri Lanka in 2023. Put in to bat, the Temba Bavuma-led South Africa rode on centuries from Quinton de Kock (100), Rassie van der Dussen (108) and Aiden Markram (106) to post a mammoth total of 428/5 in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 326 in 44.5 overs as South Africa secured a 102-run victory in Delhi.

Australia | 417/6 vs Afghanistan | 2015

Five-time champions Australia feature second on the list for highest totals in ODI World Cup history. During an ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 clash against Afghanistan in Perth, Australia recorded a massive total of 417/6 in their 50 overs. Star opener David Warner slammed 178 while contributions from Steve Smith (95) and Glenn Maxwell (88) powered the hosts to the second-highest total in ODI World Cups. Australia later bundled out Afghanistan for 142 to register a 275-run win.

India | 413/5 vs Bermuda | 2007

The Indian cricket team has the third-highest total in ODI World Cup history. Led by captain Rahul Dravid, India posted 413/5 against Bermuda in Port of Spain in 2007. Virender Sehwag (114), Sourav Ganguly (89), Yuvraj Singh (83) and Sachin Tendulkar (57 not out) guided their side to the huge total. In reply, Bermuda were skittled out for 156 as India won the match by 257 runs.

South Africa | 411/4 vs Ireland | 2015

South Africa is also fourth on the list for highest totals in ODI World Cup history. During an ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 clash against Ireland in Canberra, South Africa rode on Hashim Amla’s 159, Faf du Plessis’ 109 and Rilee Rossouw’s unbeaten 30-ball 61 to power South Africa to a mammoth total of 411/4. South Africa later bowled out Ireland for 210 in 45 overs to secure a 201-run victory.

South Africa | 408/5 vs West Indies | 2015

South Africa completes the top five list for highest totals in ODI World Cup history as well. The AB de Villiers-led side recorded 408/5 against West Indies during an ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 encounter in Sydney. Captain AB de Villiers led from the front as he hammered 162 not out off just 66 balls, along with contributions from Hashim Amla (65), Faf du Plessis (62) and Rilee Rossouw (61) to guide South Africa to a giant total. In reply, West Indies were bundled out for 151 as South Africa won the clash by a massive 257 runs.
