Australians dominate list of highest successful chases in Women’s World Cup

Australian women’s team’s 280/4 against India women during the ICC Women's World Cup 2022 is the highest successful run-chase in the history of the competition. Chasing India's 277/7, Australia rode on captain Meg Lanning's 107-ball 97 to win the match with three balls remaining. 

South Africa women hold the record for the second-highest successful run-chase. The team scored 275/7 against India women at Hagley Oval in 2022.

The Southern Stars also hold the record for the third-highest successful run-chase. The Aussies scored 262/2 against Sri Lankan women in 2017 at Bristol. Meg Lanning was at the core once again, scoring an unbeaten 152 and was helped by a well-compiled half-century from Nicole Bolton. The Aussie women reached the target with more than six overs to spare. 

Besides Lanning, Chamari Athapaththu scored an unbeaten 178 for Sri Lanka in the game, making it the first instance where two players breached the 150-run mark in the same match across both men’s and women’s World Cup. 

Coming in fourth on this list is Sri Lankan women’s 244/9 against England women in 2013, which helped them win by one wicket in a thrilling match at the Brabourne Stadium. 

After a century stand from Chamari Athapaththu and Yasoda Mendis at the top of the order, the Lankans lost the plot with a flurry of wickets in the middle. However, Eshani Lokusuriyage’s late flourish with a 41-ball 56 carried the Sri Lankans over the line. 

West Indies women’s 234/8 against South Africa women in the 2013 World Cup is fifth on the list for highest successful run-chase in Women’s World Cup. Chasing a target of 231, the Windies lost wickets at regular intervals but Stafanie Taylor stood tall, scoring a valuable 75 to help her side win the match.
