Former Bangalore captain Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers hold the record for the highest partnership in Indian T20 League.
Kohli and de Villiers forged a 229-run partnership for the second wicket against the now-defunct Gujarat franchise at M Chinnaswamy in the 2016 edition of the Indian T20 League.
Put into bat, Bangalore lost their swashbuckling opener Chris Gayle (6) early in the match. South Africa batter AB de Villiers joined captain Kohli at the crease. The duo went onto register scintillating hundreds in the encounter in Bengaluru. While Kohli was dismissed after scoring 55-ball 109, de Villiers remained unbeaten on 129 off just 52 balls.
The incredible second-wicket partnership between Kohli and de Villiers helped Bangalore post a mammoth 248/3 in their quota of 20 overs. In reply, Gujarat were bundled out for just 104 as the hosts secured a 144-run victory.
Kohli and de Villiers also feature second on the list for the highest partnership in the Indian T20 League. The Bangalore batters recorded an unbeaten 215-run partnership against Mumbai at Wankhede in 2015. Kohli scored 82 off just 50 balls while de Villiers smashed 59-ball 133 to power Bangalore to 235/1 in their 20 overs. Bangalore later restricted Mumbai to 196/7 in their 20 overs to win the match by 39 runs.
Former Punjab skipper Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh are third on the list for highest partnership in Indian T20 League. After Punjab opener Paul Valthaty was dismissed for 20, Gilchrist (106) and Marsh (79) stitched an incredible 206-run partnership against Bangalore in Dharamsala in 2011 to help Punjab post 232/2 in their 20 overs. Later, Bangalore were skittled out for 121 as Punjab claimed a 111-run victory.
Bangalore’s Chris Gayle-Virat Kohli and Delhi’s David Warner and Naman Ojha complete the top five list for highest partnership in Indian T20 League. While Gayle and Kohli recorded an unbeaten 204-run partnership for the second wicket against Delhi in 2012, Warner and Ojha forged an unbeaten 189-run partnership for the second wicket against Deccan franchise in 2012.
