Doubling up in style! Know all ODI double centurions in cricket history

Sachin Tendulkar was the first cricketer to score 200 runs in an ODI in the history of the game. He had managed to achieve the coveted landmark against the South Africa cricket team in 2010 at Gwalior during a day-night match.

The Master Blaster had reached this phenomenal landmark in the second ODI of the home series. The record innings, which came off 147 balls, was studded with as many as 25 boundaries and three maximums. 

India had posted a mammoth total of 401 runs and in reply, the Proteas were bundled out for 248 runs to hand the hosts a comfortable 153-run victory.

Sachin Tendulkar ended his career with 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs with 49 centuries and 96 half-centuries to his name in the 50-over format. He also holds the records for the most ODIs played and the most number of runs scored. Tendulkar also has the most Man of the Match awards (63) to his name.

Ishan Kishan is the newest entrant into the list of double centurions. He smashed 210 off 131 balls against Bangladesh on December 10, 2022, which includes 24 fours and 10 sixes.

The Indian cricket team has seen four players hitting the ODI double ton over the years. Tendulkar was followed by Virender Sehwag, who had hit a double century in 2011 against West Indies.

However, if there is one player who has mastered the art of scoring 200 runs in the 50-over format almost at will, it is Rohit Sharma. The Mumbai batsman has achieved this unbelievable feat thrice.

While his first two double centuries came against Sri Lanka, the third one against the mighty Australians. Rohit Sharma’s first double-century knock of an unbeaten 264 runs still remains the highest score in ODI history.
