The Indian cricket team scripted history as they recorded the fastest team 100 in Test cricket against Bangladesh at Green Park in Kanpur in September 2024.

During the second Test of Bangladesh’s tour of India, openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal helped India set a new record for the fastest team 100 in Test cricket after they reached the milestone in just 10.1 overs.

Jaiswal slammed 67 off 40 balls, Rohit’s 11-ball 23 and Shubman Gill’s run-a-ball 11 helped India reach 100 runs in just 61 balls in Kanpur.

Interestingly, India also held the previous record for the fastest team 100 in Test cricket. Rohit and Jaiswal smashed 98 runs off just 11.5 overs during their second innings of the second Test of India’s tour of West Indies in Port of Spain in July 2023. The visitors later reached their 100 in just 12.2 overs to record the then fastest team 100 in Test cricket at the Queen's Park Oval. The match later ended in a draw.

The Sri Lanka cricket team features third on the list of the fastest team 100 in Test cricket.

Sri Lanka rode on openers Sanath Jayasuriya and Marvan Atapattu to set a new record for the fastest team 100 in Test cricket in 13.1 overs against Bangladesh in Colombo in 2001.

After bundling out Bangladesh for 90 in their first innings, Marvan Atapattu’s 201, Mahela Jayawardene’s 150 and Sanath Jayasuriya’s 89 powered Sri Lanka to 555/5d in their first innings. Bangladesh were bowled out for 328 in their second innings as the hosts won the Test by an innings and 137 runs.

Bangladesh and England complete the top five list of fastest team 100 in Test cricket.

During the first Test of West Indies’ tour of Bangladesh in November 2012, the hosts reached 100 runs in 13.4 overs in their first innings in Mirpur after West Indies declared their innings at 527/4. Despite adopting a T20-esque batting strategy, Bangladesh suffered a 77-run loss in the Mirpur Test.

Meanwhile, England openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett slammed 100 runs in just 13.4 overs in their first innings against Pakistan at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in December 2022.

Harry Brook (153), Zak Crawley (122), Ollie Pope (108) and Ben Duckett (107) helped England post a mammoth total of 657 in their first innings. In reply, Pakistan scored 579 before England declared their second innings at 264/7.

Chasing 343, Pakistan were bowled out for 268 as the Ben Stokes-led England won the Rawalpindi Test by 74 runs. Get the list of fastest team 100 in Test cricket.
