The Duleep Trophy is an annual Indian domestic First-Class cricket tournament.
Organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Duleep Trophy features teams representing geographical zones of India.
East Zone, Central Zone, North Zone, South Zone and West Zone are the five teams that initially competed for the Duleep Trophy.
Named after Kumar Shri Duleepsinhji of Nawanagar (also known as Duleep), the first edition of Duleep Trophy was played during the 1961-62 season. West Zone won the inaugural edition of the tournament after defeating South Zone by 10 wickets in the final.
Since then, there have been 61 editions of the Duleep Trophy being hosted so far.
West Zone is the most successful team in Duleep Trophy history with 19 titles, while North Zone are the second-most successful team with 18 title triumphs. Meanwhile, South Zone are next in terms of most Duleep Trophy trophies having won it 14 times.
The zonal teams were replaced by five new teams - Elite A, Elite B, Elite C, Plate A and Plate B during the 2002-03 season. However, this format was used for only one season.
Later from the 2003-04 season till 2008, the Duleep Trophy featured five zonal teams and another guest team from a foreign nation.
This domestic cricket competition was not held during the 2015-16 season, but later made a comeback with a new format in 2016-17.
India Blue, India Green and India Red were the three teams that competed for the Duleep Trophy for next three years till the 2019-20 season.
In the 2022-23 season, the BCCI once again introduced the zonal format with the addition of a new team - North East Zone, apart from the original five zones.
West Zone are the defending champions of the Duleep Trophy, having defeated South Zone by 294 runs in the 2022-23 final. Get the Duleep Trophy winners list.
