Indian batter, Yashasvi Jaiswal, became the latest player to join an elite club of cricketers with consecutive double hundreds in Test cricket.

Jaiswal scored back-to-back double centuries during England’s five-match Test series in India in 2024.

He got the first of his double hundreds in Tests against England in the second match of the series at Visakhapatnam.

Jaiswal made 209 before being dismissed and helped India win the match by 106 runs to level the series 1-1.

He then scored his second double ton in the third Test when he made an unbeaten 214 to help India register a 434-run win and take a 2-1 lead in the series.

By doing so, Jaiswal became the seventh player in the history of the game to register successive double hundreds in Test cricket.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is now also the third youngest player to achieve this feat at 22 years and 52 days.

He trails Vinod Kambli, who did so at 21 years and 54 days, and Don Bradman who is the youngest ever to do so at 21 years and 318 days.

The first-ever player to make back-to-back double hundreds in Test cricket was England legend Wally Hammond, who first did in 1928 against Australia before repeating the incredible feat against New Zealand five years later in 1933.

Such was the magnitude of his feat that Wally Hammond remains the only player in cricket history to make consecutive double centuries in Tests twice.

Sir Donald Bradman became the second player to make back-to-back double tons in Test cricket in 1934 against arch-rivals England.

After Bradman’s twin double tons in successive Tests, there was a 59-year-long wait before another player managed to replicate the feat when India’s Vinod Kambli scored two double tons in red-ball cricket against England and Zimbabwe in 1993.

In 2007, Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara became the fourth cricketer to score two consecutive double-hundreds in Tests.

He achieved this record when Sri Lanka hosted Bangladesh for a two-match Test series, where he scored 200* in Colombo and 222* in Kandy.

Former Australian skipper Michael Clarke was the next to player to join this elite club of cricketers when he struck consecutive double hundreds against South Africa in 2012.

The King of Cricket, Virat Kohli was the sixth cricketer to score consecutive double hundreds in Tests. Kohli achieved this milestone when Sri Lanka toured India in 2017.

Interestingly, out of the seven players who have managed to score double centuries in back-to-back Tests, three are Indians.

With that in mind, here’s a complete list of players who have managed to make consecutive double centuries in Test cricket.
