British Kabaddi League 2022 to hit the mat on April 8

The British Kabaddi League 2022, organized by the England Kabaddi Association and Scottish Kabaddi Association, will begin on Friday, April 8.

The tournament, a first for the sport outside of India, is the brainchild of Ashok Das, president of England Kabaddi Federation and World Kabaddi Federation and a former Indian kabaddi player.

The inaugural edition of BKL, launched in Wolverhampton on March 29, is aimed at promoting the sport in the United Kingdom as well as empowering up-and-coming kabaddi athletes in the community and promoting physical exercise.

The British Kabaddi League 2022 will be an eight-team affair. The participating teams are Birmingham Bulls, Wolverhampton Wolfpack, Walsall Hunters, Leicester Warriors, London Lions, Edinburgh Eagles, Glasgow Unicorns and Manchester Raiders.

A total of 28 matches will be played between the eight teams, with each team playing once against the other seven. There will be four matches held per day.

The British Kabaddi League will be played in a league-cum-knockout format, and is scheduled to be held in four phases across four cities in  Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow.

Glasgow will host the knockout matches with British Kabaddi League 2022 final set for May 1, 2022.
